The WalthersMainline HO EMD SD60 is back, this time with new features. Model Railroader Senior Editor Cody Grivno uses this six-axle road unit to switch cars on our Winston-Salem Southbound Tar Branch project layout. In addition, he shares a condensed history of the Electro-Motive Division road unit and Oakway Leasing No. 9009; highlights the detail parts on the ready-to-run model; and demonstrates some of the sound and light functions on the locomotive, which features ESU Sound & DCC.

Road names on the WalthersMainline HO EMD SD60 include Oakway Leasing (blue and white); Canadian Pacific (red and white); The CIT Group (blue and white); Kansas City Southern (gray and red); New York, Susquehanna & Western (yellow and black); and Soo Line (Candy Apple Red). The model is offered in four road numbers per paint scheme, two each in direct current and Digital Command Control.

The HO scale Electro-Motive SD60 has an injection-molded plastic body, die-cast metal chassis, and a five-pole skew-wound motor with two machined brass flywheels. Additional features include a standard-width Spartan cab, molded drill starter points for grab irons in the EMD SD50 and SD60 detail kit (No. 910-256, sold separately); constant, directional light-emitting-diode lighting; RP-25 contour metal wheels; all-wheel drive and electrical pickup; helical-cut gears; and Proto-Max metal couplers.

Direct-current models with a 21-pin DCC plug and factory-installed 28mm round speaker retail for $159.98. Versions with ESU DCC & Sound are priced at $214.98.
