Spring Creek Model Trains thrives in rural Nebraska

The store is one of the largest model railroad retailers between Chicago and Denver
DESHLER -- On a quiet downtown street in this rural Nebraska community, you will find a train depot of sorts.

A place where railroads past and present -- Burlington Northern, Union Pacific, Rock Island, Santa Fe, etc. -- park locomotives, rail cars, cabooses and more under a roof on the corner of East Bryson Avenue.

This “depot” is home to Spring Creek Model Trains, one of the largest model train retailers between Denver and Chicago. Enthusiasts from far and wide travel to the store to satisfy curiosities and, more often than not, to bolster their collections.

It’s not what you expect to find in a town of 747 people. But nothing in this warehouse-like building is what you would expect.
