Passion for model trains at the Thousand Islands Train Fair

The 31st annual train fair was held in Clayton, N.Y.
It's something people get into pretty hardcore... model trains

This weekend was the 31st annual Thousand Islands Train Fair at the Cerow Arena in Clayton.

It's put on by the Watertown Area Model Railroad Club. It's a chance for train lovers to show off their sets and look for some new additions to the model railroads they have at home.

Even though organizers say it's tough to get kids interested in model trains, the people who get hooked often start young.

Nick Bernier, who is the youngest member of Watertown Model Railroad Club said, " (It) Started with Thomas the Tank Engine. Then I met someone named Mr. Barker, and he got me into trains more."

Ed Charlton, member of Watertown Model Railroad, said he's been into trains for years.

"I just like running them around. I had one when I was a kid. That was a few years back," Charlton said.

The train show is the only fund raiser of the year for the Watertown Model Railroad Club. It raises about $2,500 each year.
