All aboard the Autumn in Allegany Train Show

For many children of bygone days, getting a train set as a Christmas or birthday gift was the highlight of their youth.

Three men who have been hooked on trains since boyhood — Paul Hessney, Russ Allen and Tom Burnard — plan to help others capture a bit of their youth and introduce trains to kids when they stage the Autumn in Allegany Train Show on Sunday. The third annual event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Carter Events Center at 2383 W. Five Mile Road and is open to the public. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. A variety of toy train vendors will be on hand to sell parts, and possibly buy toy trains from visitors. Food will be sold by Whispering Mountain Lodge Restaurant.

Hessney said approximately 45 vendors from the area and out of town will sell a variety of wares and memorabilia. Trains of all scales will be present, many of popular collector brands such as Lionel, American Flyer and Marx brands. A vintage railroad conductor uniform, antique lanterns and railroad keys will also be on hand.
